The Philips Symphony Orchestra at Akoesticum

Akoesticum is the training centre for the performing arts. Its facilities are optimised for orchestras, choirs and other performing artists. There are acoustically optimised halls, a beautiful garden, sleeping space for 150 people, an auditorium that can also accommodate 250 audience members, and studios that offer the possibility to rehearse in smaller groups. We are already found by several orchestras, and one of our regular guests is the Philips Symphony Orchestra! We spoke to violinist Daan Alberga about their experiences at Akoesticum.

  1. How many times have you been to Akoesticum?
    I think about five times.
  2. How do you look back on the rehearsal weekends at Akoesticum, and what is your best memory of them?
Very good, it is very nice that they understand very well what it is like to have to organise this with an orchestra, and that there are also smaller rooms. It's very nice that there is also a pub, which does fit well with such a weekend. I'm not sure, but I think we once had to close it earlier than some members would have liked, is that possible?
  3. How do weekends at Akoesticum differ from rehearsals at other venues?
It is the only venue in the Netherlands where we can rehearse so well at acceptable costs. And the venue is also very suitable, good light, good acoustics. Sometimes too small, but that's only when we have a huge project with a choir.
  4. What do you consider the biggest advantage of rehearsing at Akoesticum?
Besides what is mentioned above, it is also very centrally located and easily accessible by public transport.
  5. Would you recommend other orchestras to book a multi-day rehearsal at Akoesticum? And why?
Yes, I would immediately, for the above advantages. Above all: it is the only venue this good. Over budget for some orchestras, though.
