Akoesticum member of the MERITA platform
We are proud to share that Akoesticum is part of the MERITA platform as a historic house! MERITA works to increase the visibility and dissemination of emerging European string quartets and promote cultural heritage across Europe. The platform offers the opportunity to redefine performance together, reach wider audiences and foster an artistic connection between tradition and innovation.
The centrepiece of the MERITA project are the 38 string quartets. They will each create an original and unique project and perform these innovative concerts at various cultural venues, including historic houses and 9 cultural sites in Europa Nostra's 7 Most Endangered programme. Organising these concerts at heritage sites will create a dialogue between Europe's past and present and work together towards a vital future for Europe's cultural heritage.
"At Akoesticum, inspiring encounters and artistic exchange result in surprising art forms and performances. We strive to be a place where people meet and inspire each other." - Anne ten Barge, Akoesticum
Participation Akoesticum
MERITA deliberately chooses to organise concerts at heritage sites. This way, they come alive, and are experienced in a new way. Akoesticum has been located in the former Johan Willem Friso Barracks in Ede since 2014. The former infantry barracks was built in neo-Renaissance style, and received national monument status in 2005.
Akoesticum is a sanctuary for performing artists to come together, rehearse, learn, create, experiment, innovate and inspire each other. An open house and meeting place for artists and audiences of all ages and cultures; an incubator where inspiring encounters and artistic exchange result in surprising art forms and performances. We look forward to hosting the participating quartets with us.
